Zod grew out of a real pain point: TypeScript types disappear at runtime, so data from APIs, forms, or databases can arrive as anything. Zod lets you describe the shape of that data once, validate it when it shows up, and get fully inferred types without writing a separate interface. The API reads almost like plain English — z.string(), z.number().min(1), z.object({ name: z.string() }) — and it composes well for nested structures. It also plays nicely with React Hook Form and tRPC, which is why you'll see it paired with both in real projects. Small, zero dependencies, and it has become the default choice for validation in the TypeScript ecosystem.
